MEDEVAC II AND IIA STRETCHER (ARMAEREO CERTIFICATE)
The Medevac II series stretcher is widely used in helicopter rescue. Currently in use by many civilian and military operators worldwide, including the US military sectors, the Japanese Self-Defense Force, the Canadian Department of National Defence, and the Australian Royal Army, it is the standard equipment on board all helicopters and rescue vessels of the US Coast Guard. The Medevac II is a modern Stokes-type litter built to last in marine environments and is available in two models: a rigid frame (Medevac II) or a modular frame (Medevac IIA).
The modular model occupies approximately half the space of rigid stretchers. Screw couplers with self-aligning pins firmly lock the upper tubes, and the lower axle tubes attach with a hook and have pin/slot accessories that allow for quick assembly. Both the upper tube and the axle joints are cast or machined from solid stainless steel. This joint system is currently the strongest in use on any stretcher.
The Medevac IIA modular litter is as robust as the rigid Medevac II, with load testing up to 2600 lbs without any failure. Both the Medevac II and the IIA are offered in polished type 304 stainless steel or with a lightweight titanium frame. The tubular components are 30% thicker than those used on other (MIL-SPEC) military and commercial litters, allowing for longer durability and extended usage time. Each litter includes five (5) color-coded patient restraint straps, with exclusive double-locking and quick-release safety buckles. Problematic wooden and plastic stretchers commonly used by military and specialized operators and other Stokes-type litters are replaced by full-length stainless steel or titanium boards. A smooth mesh made of corrosion-resistant plastic replaces the typical wire mesh covering that is prone to rust and corrosion.
The Medevac II and the IIA in lightweight titanium have the same design as the stainless steel models, but are manufactured in the aerospace sector. The tubes and components are made of ASTM Grade 9 titanium (TI-3AL-2.5V). The use of titanium provides a 40% reduction in frame weight, increases mechanical strength properties, and improves corrosion resistance compared to standard or stainless steel litters. The weight reduction is a significant advantage for aircraft operators, as it provides more available weight for additional equipment and/or reduces fuel consumption. Ergonomically, the lighter litter results in significantly easier transport and handling for rescue personnel, making the titanium models ideal for remote areas and mountain rescue operations.
MEDEVAC stretchers are approved for airworthiness by the Department of Defence - US Army (Airworthiness Release 980-R14).
