The McCauley folding basket (Rescue Basket) combines the compact configuration of net rescue systems with the strength, rigidity, and safety of the tubular frame basket. The particular design reduces storage space by 55%, making it suitable for use by operators of smaller helicopters or those not specifically designed for search and rescue operations.

Equipped with a large internal volume, when open it is capable of holding two average-sized adults for recovery in a single lifting operation, reducing recovery time on site and in flight. The crossbar components fold into the basket and each side folds down for closure.

The basket is erected easily and quickly simply by lifting the crossbars and upper railing upwards, rotating the side supports downwards, and securing them with simple spring closures. This creates a rigid structure that aids handling and entry into the basket. The new tubular pin design reduces the need for maintenance.

Rescue basket #495 is approved for airworthiness by the Department of Defence - US Army (Airworthiness Release 980-R14)
